You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1
Cry of my heart, cry
That the burning thirst be blessed
Because it led
Me, even me,
To the Oasis
I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
Psalm 63:2-3
Because your love is better,
Because your love flows,
Unhindered
By meager times,
The Oasis blooms
In the faces
Who praise Christ.
I have seen you--
Your power
Your glory--
Turning my desert
Into a forest,
The parched
Into passion,
My fault lines
Into channels
Of compassion,
Because your love flows
Unhindered
In meager times.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
Psalm 63:4-5
Praise is sweet,
Honey to the tongue,
Health to the heart.
I have become sweet,
I have become honey-tongued,
I have become a healthy heart.
You become what you praise.
You live as long as what you worship.
Your name is lifted as high as your thoughts.
On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.
Psalm 63:6-8
I rest in the shadow of your wings.
It is dark and warm,
Here in softness of your feathers.
I feel you supporting my back,
So strong I can sleep
Though the gales
Of a hurricane,
For the LORD Almighty
Can still wing His way.
Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;
they will go down to the depths of the earth.
They will be given over to the sword
and become food for jackals.
But the king will rejoice in God;
all who swear by God will glory in him,
while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
Psalm 63:9-11
The jackals cry in the desert night;
Their echoes haunt the air.
The cacophony
Quiets suddenly--
With a flash of light--
A song rushes
From the stars
Singing in joy
Over the garden,
“Come Drink the Water of Life!”
