Laura usually works with writers in regular deadlines scheduled every three weeks or every month. She usually books these deadlines at least one or two months ahead for existing clients and new clients may need to wait until a spot becomes available.
There are four types of deadlines that Laura regularly books:

Standard Pace Coaching – Full Deadlines – $700 CAD per deadline
Do you want the full experience of coaching with the most feedback and the quickest progress on your goals?
- up to 40 pages of material reviewed OR four items needing intense feedback, such as book proposal sections.
- editorial letter and inline comments included in every deadline
- 1 hour coaching call included
- all Book Coaching Steps (see below) can be done with this type of deadline, besides specific special circumstances (listed below)
These deadlines have priority booking.

Reduced Pace Coaching – Half Deadlines – $400 CAD per deadline
Do you need a reduced pace and/or a lower price point for regular coaching? This option lengthens your project time, but can be more affordable for some writers.
- up to 20 pages of material reviewed OR two items needing intense feedback, such as book proposal sections.
- editorial letter included in every deadline and inline comments as needed
- 1 hour coaching call included
- most Book Coaching Steps (see below) can be done with this type of deadline, besides specific special circumstances (listed below)

Slow Paced Coaching – Quarter Deadlines – $250 CAD per deadline
Do you need a slow pace and a budget-friendly regular coaching fee? This option can lengthen your project time more, but can make coaching accessible for more writers.
- up to 10 pages of material reviewed OR one item needing intense feedback, such as a book proposal section.
- editorial letter and inline comments as needed; feedback may be given verbally
- 1 hour coaching call included
- some Book Coaching Steps (see below) can be done with this type of deadline but not all.
There are limited slots for quarter deadlines, and they are not always available.

Special Circumstances Coaching – Extra Large Deadlines – $1000+ CAD per deadline or package (varies)
These deadlines are used for special circumstances such as large manuscript evaluations, book proposal evaluations, agent/publisher research, or deep revision work. These are quoted for each project proposed, based on word count and the level of coaching/editing needed.
Steps in the Book Coaching Process
You might enter book coaching with Laura at any of the 4 steps below in the book coaching process. You might already have a draft complete, or know your final publishing path, or have your pitch package complete. Just know that sometimes we might need to bounce back to an earlier stage of the process if something needs a bit more development, as the creative process is often not linear and is usually iterative.
When agreeing to work with Laura you can pick and choose what steps you’d like to work on. You do not need to commit to all four steps, but it is often helpful to have someone who knows your book deeply at each of the four steps.

Step 1: Design
Is your book idea a BIG IDEA, one that will offer something fresh and fascinating? Will it hold up under intense scrutiny and use?
Design your book following an Author Accelerator proven process called the Blueprint to stand out and stand up. You’ll feel confident in your concept and solid in your approach to writing and pitching for publication. You will also have 50 pages of your draft completed and reviewed by the end of this step.
- Standard Pace and Reduced Pace Coaching works at this step. Sometimes Creative Writers Cafes also include a slow pace version of the Step 1’s Design.
Digital workbook included.

Step 2: Drafting and Revising First Drafts
Draft and revise your first draft of your manuscript and/or book proposal with Laura’s careful eye overlooking the process and built in accountability. She will provide easy to use guides to help you do your best.
In this step, you will discover if your work is hanging together, driving toward a single point or theme, flowing well with a cause and effect pattern, feels solid in its marketplace viability and positioning, and much more.
Laura often helps you determine your tentative publishing path in this step.
- Standard Pace, Reduced Pace, and Slow Pace Coaching works at this step. In some instances, an initial book proposal evaluation (Extra Large Deadline) may be required.

Step 3: Preparing to Pitch
Polish the final drafts of your pitch package (which can include your manuscript, book proposal, synopsis, and/or query letter)
This is often an intense part of the process, and can require a full manuscript / book proposal evaluation or deep revision work.
Laura uses Author Accelerator processes and rubrics to assess whether you are ready to pitch. She also seeks your input and checks in with your gut feelings.
- Standard Pace and Reduced Pace Coaching works at this step. Slow Pace Coaching often does not, and sometimes Extra Large Deadlines are needed in select places.

Step 4: Pitching
Here you will lock down what publishing path you are pursuing, and make an actionable plan for doing so.
This can include reviewing your agent/publisher preferences, checking your digital signature for professionalism and relevancy, researching your publishing markets (agents/publishers) and developing your pitching or self-publishing strategy.
Laura also provides a la carte pitching or publishing support consulting calls to established clients.
- Standard Pace and Reduced Pace Coaching works at this step, though Slow Pace Coaching often does not, with sometimes Extra Large Deadlines needed for special circumstances (agent/publisher research).
