To Steep in the Quiet: How Solitude Makes Us Stronger

I love a cup of tea and a quiet room with a soft chair—nothing to do, nowhere to be—just solitude. This is where my best ideas come as a writer and coach.

Am I weird? Maybe. Most likely. Who else spends a Friday night this way?

But when I can hear my own thoughts and connect with my heart, I’m a better person for it. Kinder, softer, and more peaceful in an increasingly loud world.

Quiet gives us the strength to engage with our lives with all of who we are. To bring our thunder, when it’s time to get cracking.

Steeping in the quiet will make you a strong blend of courage and consideration, passion and peace, a mix that’s well prepared for the world we find ourselves in.

How could you keep quiet at the center for you? Is there a place you can find to retreat regularly, even for 5 to 10 minutes a day?

How can you be creative to protect that time? Set a boundary around it?

And when you do get there, think about what you can do to connect with what’s important to you. How will you use your quiet, your calm in creative ways?

It doesn’t have to be complicated. And it can be yours—this quiet “I” in the storm.

PS. I also like to have coffee—usually when I’m working as a book coach. (Tea is reserved for solitude : ) I love meeting new people, especially writers, and encouraging them in person and online. Perhaps you have a burning question about your writing, or publishing, or this strange thing called marketing a book, and would like to share a coffee with me, online, where I can lend you an ear and some insight. I have reserved special coffee times in my schedule for one-on-one conversations with writers, and you can book one at my coaching website or at the button below. See you online soon over a cup of caffeine!
